Type at speed, tea at rest

One headline pulled into motion blur, a ladder of the same words fading down the page, two small marks in red and blue. The bowl stays still in the middle.

Swiss-style poster on off-white: a huge black headline smeared into horizontal motion blur, repeated grey lines fading below, a stone bowl of steaming dark tea at the centre.

What the typography is doing

Typography does the work here because the product needs no decoration: a dark pressed nugget photographs as one dense mass, and a poster is the honest frame for it. A single neo-grotesque line runs the width of the page, the same words repeat downward as a ladder of grey until they sink into the stock, and two small marks in red and blue hold the lower corner. The horizontal smear across the headline is the only movement in the shop, and it is there to make the bowl in the centre look still. Off-white stock, black ink, one red accent, and no photograph we did not take ourselves. The poster habits are studied from the designer Max Fede, who is not connected to this shop; the setting and the words are ours.
